Southport Standard Distance European Qualifier – May. Oh my goodness – I thought I was ready for a cold water swim. My head was screaming – you can’t get in . I lost vital seconds faffing at the water’s edge for the open water swim in the boating lake – which lost me a precious finish position. When I eventually exited the swim the transition area, for social distancing reasons , was super long , running on gravelly tarmac was excruciating. Got to the bike , put a coat on , my helmet, socks and shoes and off I trotted to the bike mount line. My new bike was lovely , I was less so, I did what I could. I didn’t really have my race face on , this my mentor called out and was correct, I gave everything that I had left on the run course. Came in , unsurprisingly lower down the ranks than I would have liked, still within the 15% of qualifying roll down though. I will have to wait for British Triathlon Federation to cog through all the qualifying races before I know if I’ll be invited to race in the European Championships in 2022.
